Wow! there was a large gathering of Rotarians, past Rotarians, Latrobe City dignitaries and guests at the Rotary Club of Traralgon Changeover on 2 July.  Could it have been the largest club gathering?  Unfortunately, DG Adrian Froggatt and DGE Mark Humphries couldn’t be there because of a dates conflict.  However, DG nominate Bill Degnan and his wife were present.
Outgoing President Don Crewe, now Assistant Governor for Central Gippsland, was invited by MC Gavan Hodgson to welcome the people, then called Past President Norm Butler to give the toast to Rotary International with a response from PDG Charlie Speirs.  We are fortunate to have PDG Charlie and his wife PDG Janne as members of the club.
The guest speaker, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Darren Howe, gave a short and to-the- point speech on ‘Building Community in Latrobe City’, which was of interest to Rotarians and their partners.
President Don spoke on his report, not only on the year’s happenings, but also on personal health issues whilst President of the club.  During his year Don had two ‘Health Hiccups’, but is now pronounced healthy, (said Don: ‘Long may it continue’)!
PDG Janne Speirs made presentations to individual Rotarians, including a PHF to Margaret McColl, wife of Rotarian Ron McColl for her outstanding community work, and a PHF+1 to Ray Scheffer for his work as a volunteer at Gippsland Rotary Centenary House (GRCH).  Ray planned the gardens, and landscaped them with volunteer help.  GRCH is a place to stay while long-distance patients have cancer.
