First Christmas then our conference

It has been another busy month for Jude and myself as we approach the midway point of the Governor  term. Christmas is fast approaching and after that only seven weeks to District conference.

I would ask all those many Rotarians who have advised that they will be attending to register as soon as possible, easily done via the district website or click on  https://form.jotformpro.com/72652318807965

Solomon Islands – RAWCS project
By Christine Williams

Three members from our district had the privilege to join a RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service) team to Solomon Islands recently. Alan Laughton (Kooweerup - Lang-Lang), Merv and Chris Williams (Mt Martha) were involved in fitting out a new Rural Training & Hospitality Centre at Mbanga Island.

Malaria: The fight continues
Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM), and Rotarians can be excited by the prospect of achieving malaria elimination in Timor Leste in the next five years writes Christine Williams.
The incidence of local transmission is very low, however there is still the risk of cross border infections.
Get ready to go fishing!
The greatest fishing adventure in this District is on again with the Rotary Club of Orbost announcing that its 29th annual fishing weekend will be held on 20 -22 April, 2018 at Corringle Foreshore Reserve (“The Slips”), on the Snowy River near Marlo.
South Sudanese leaders join Rotary
David & Bidit have joined Rotary as an exciting opportunity to deliver services into their community.

Coming to Australia as refugees, they have settled with their families in Frankston – both men are community leaders in the South Sudanese community in Victoria.

Rotary Frankston 2.0 is very excited to support the integration of new arrivals into our community, by providing networking opportunities, adult literacy, resume writing, and mentoring. The focus is help with providing job skills to South Sudanese community members so they can become fully engaged members of our community.
