Winding up, not down
While many Rotarians have asked if things are winding down since Conference it is clear that the Clubs of Rotary District 9820 continue to be extraordinarily active in the final quarter of the year.
The best kind of acknowledgement of a great Rotary Project was made at Centenary House on the 12th April when we were visited by the Prime Minister with local members Darren Chester and Russell Broadbent, bearing a contribution of $900,000 toward our stage three expansion. Well done Chairman PP Ken Peake, Manager AG Carol Crewe, and the amazing board and fundraising committee of Centenary House.
A great amount of time and effort has gone into the re-registration of our Youth Exchange Program. We have since last October developed and had procedures, protocols and practices accepted by the Victorian regulator VRQA which will allow us to once again, subject to compliance with all aspects of our licence, conduct an exchange program in 2019.

PM `loves' Centennary House
The Gippsland Rotary Centenary House will build 13 extra rooms in its stage three expansion following the announcement of $900,00 in federal funding. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull made the announcement at the house recently describing the facility as "the house that love built".

Charter for new Greater Dandenong Club

A special cocktail party was held on Saturday April 28 to celebrate the Launch of the Rotary Club of Greater Dandenong.
The club was formed with the amalgamation of the Rotary clubs of Dandenong ( the third oldest club in District 9820 ) and the Rotary Club of Dandenong South East.
A special partnership
From Sandie Alexander
The Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Sunrise would like to sincerely thank Office National, Bairnsdale and their customers for generously supporting our “Balibo Education Partnership”. This is a project set up to improve education in the Balibo area of East Timor by providing Primary School consumables to 23 schools in the disadvantaged areas.
Office National clients were given the opportunity to purchase a $10.00 pack of educational resources with a retail value of $20.00. This pack included exercise books, coloured pencils, black leads, ruler, rubber and pencil sharpener. Clients generously donated funds for 225 packs and with an additional donation from Sunrise Rotary, the result was a total value of $2550 worth of educational resources.
Maffra Mardi Gras celebrates anniversary

The Rotary Club of Maffra recently celebrated the Diamond Jubilee Year of its very well known Mardi Gras which began in 1957.
The community fundraiser is one of Wellington Shire's oldest events. Local community groups nominate an entrant to represent their organisation, and a friendly six week period of fundraising rivalry, precedes the event.
Inspirational speaker
Inspirational New Zealand speaker Marcus Akuhata-Brown, right, from Te Araroa on the East Cape of the North Island was made an honorary member of District 9820 and presented with a badge for leadership when he spoke to the South Gippsland cluster of clubs which includes Foster Inverloch, Phillip Island and San Remo, Korumburra, Leongatha and Wonthaggi.
A better image
Tim Wills, chair of the Public Image chair for District 9820, has produced a special letter for all clubs aimed at refining their public image as they look towards the new Rotary year.
The letter has been sent to all clubs but should you have missed it, it can be seen HERE.
That's a big cheque!
Sale and Sale Central Rotary clubs have handed over a giant cheque for $9,000 for restoration of the Sale Water Tower.  The funds came from their “Race the Rubeena” fundraising event on Labour Day weekend ($5,000), plus the clubs combined Rotary Foundation grant of $2,000 plus matching club contributions.
A forgotten risk
April was Rotary's Maternal and Child Health month.
Every day mothers risk their lives giving birth and millions of children die each year from treatable, preventable causes.
At least 7 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation.
Club News
Phillip Island and San Remo: The club is off on a road trip this week (Monday, April 30),
heading to the Western District to lend a hand to those people who had the misfortune to be caught up in the recent dreadful fires. Blazeaid are co-ordinating the whole exercise.
We’ve learned from our fellow Rotarians in the area, that assistance has been very sparse and even essential boundary fencing is still incomplete. The workers should be in the west for roughly 7-10 days. Accomodation is either bring your van, stay in motel or tent it!
